Protect Your Eyes From Diabetes
Diabetes is a medical condition that affects a large number of Americans. It is a disease that affects how your body processes glucose. You could have diabetes and still not be aware that complications from this disease can harm your vision.
However, annual diabetic eye exams can help to ensure that your vision is protected. At Pacific EyeCare Optometry, we perform eye exams with compassion and sharp attention to detail.

Diabetic Eye Disease
When your blood sugar levels are in the higher range, it can cause your vision to blur. You may correct blurry vision by adjusting your insulin levels, but if your blood glucose remains at a higher level for a prolonged time, it may increase the risk of eye disease.
Many instances of blurry vision for extended periods could be a symptom of something significant impacting your vision. If you are concerned about your eyesight, please contact us for a consultation.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy occurs when high glucose levels in the blood damage your eyes’ blood vessels. At the onset of this condition, there may be no symptoms or only temporary blurred vision. However, this disease can result in blindness as the condition progresses.
Diabetic Macular Edema (DME)
The macula is the centermost part of your retina. Its primary purpose is to provide clear, central vision, allowing us to see objects in sharper detail.
If the retina suffers continuous damage to its small blood vessels, it can result in a buildup of fluid in the macula. This buildup can result in loss of vision. This condition is called diabetic macular edema (DME). There are treatments available for DME if the disease is caught early and monitored by a qualified optometrist.
Prevention is the Key
